Cabinet Door Chalkboard

Have you ever been to ReStore???  If you haven't, you should!  I don't know if they are everywhere, or just here in my little neck of the woods, but I LOVE them!  Building supplies, furniture etc. are donated there.  They sell the stuff for good GREAT prices and the money goes to Habitat for Humanity.  Love the idea!  So, I was in ReStore a couple of weeks ago, and I grabbed an unfinished cabinet door.

It was a pretty big door and it was solid oak.  It didn't have a price on it, so I asked and it was only 5 bucks.  Um, can you say, SOLD?  I felt like I had just won the lottery.  Okay, well maybe not the lottery, but I felt pretty happy about my purchase.

I brought my cabinet door home and grabbed my supplies:
I painted the frame of the door with a light linen color, then added my good ol' Elmer's Glue for a crackle look and painted a color called Mississippi Mud on the top.  When that dried, I dry brushed a dark brown on the top to give a patina affect.  This picture is before I did the dry brushing.

Then I grabbed my handy-dandy can of chalkboard paint and painted the center of the door with chalkboard paint.  I did three coats.

I added some vinyl lettering that I cut out with my Cricut.
I drilled two holes in the top and then hung it on my wall.  I covered the screws with two jewels so you can't see the screw heads :)
It has been great fun!  We have put different quotes on it almost everyday and even used it to welcome people to the Twifest Party we had last week.  Such a simple idea that has been VERY useful as well!
**In case you hadn't noticed I moved my blog from Live~Laugh~Love~Create over to Paisley Passions.  If you used to follow me on my old blog, I would LOVE it if you would follow me here now.  Also, if you have never followed me, I would LOVE it if you did!  :) **

I am LINKING UP HERE THIS WEEK.  Go check them out.

I like the door! I was going to use an old chalk board and attach it to the wall with old barn boards, but I was afraid it would be too heavy. I have used the paint before. Maybe I should get it out again. I love the idea!

Oh my gosh, I knew I saw this done somewhere in blog land but couldn't remember who or where and I just found you via Thrify Tickle's link party. I picked up two similar doors at our local thrift shop, to do this, knowing it wasn't my original idea, but thankful someone else posted it. So there you go, thank you for my future project, I hope it comes out as nice as yours.

I think we might be related! lmao, ok Im kidding, but I was at our local restore here in Indiana, and was looking for something unrelated when I came across a pile, and I mean a HUGE pile of nice cabinet doors. Priced at $2. I bought as many as would fit in a box I had. People looked at me like I was crazy! I am doing something different with most of mine, but I need a chalkboard one too now! BTW I sold one as a hairbow holder, for what it cost me to buy all of them. I felt redeemed for my cabinet door obsession. hehehe
